Forever Birthday Gift

Forever Birthday Gift

Vicki Singer

The Jewish Federation of St. Louis has long been part of Vicki Singer's family. Her husband, Barry, is from St. Louis, and his family has always been involved in the Jewish community, including Federation.

Vicki was introduced to Women's Philanthropy, a division of Federation, through The Women's Council for Education class (now Taste of the Community) and she says, "It has become my second home ever since."

Her young adult children – Daphne, 20, and Leo, 18 – developed their strong Jewish identities through many programs and partner organizations supported by the Jewish Federation, such as Shalom Baby, JCC Camp, Teen Tzedek, Camp Sabra, Israel Bound, Jewish Student Union, Jewish Light, and Central Reform Congregation.

"Just like my children, I have been the fortunate beneficiary of Federation-sponsored internships and travel grants that shaped my life," Vicki says. "I want those same opportunities available for everyone because immersive Jewish experiences create community and lifelong learners."

So, it was natural that for Vicki's 50th birthday in January she marked this milestone by endowing her Lion of Judah level gift – this legacy gift will live on in perpetuity in Vicki's name for the Annual Jewish Federation Campaign.

"I have an IRA in my name from working as a development professional decades ago. This small amount accrued over time and it was a very simple process to make the Jewish Federation of St. Louis the beneficiary," Vicki says.

Her motivation was to help ensure our next generation can draw from a foundation of financial support by building a strong safety net for our community to respond to an aging population, new technologies, and security needs in a rapidly changing world.

Vicki says that she supports the Jewish Federation's annual campaign because it is designed to meet the challenges of today. Every dollar raised supports a program vital to someone – from poverty and elder care to inclusion and education.

"Women's Philanthropy has given me so much over the past 18 years through education, connection, and leadership opportunities. This Lion of Judah Endowment is to thank the women who have mentored me and inspire others to think about their legacy now," Vicki says.

You can follow Vicki's lead and leave your Jewish legacy with a gift to the Jewish Federation of St. Louis in your estate plan. Contact Shelly Azar at 314-442-3829 or [email protected] to get started today.
